Ten Things You Should-- and Can-- Stop Procrastinating Right Now

I'm awful when it comes to putting things off. The funny thing is, though, a lot of the things people procrastinate are relatively simple to at least start, which sort've makes the whole deal a lot sillier. So I've been musing on this and decided that there are a few things that you (yes, looking at you) might have decided to oh, get around to eventually that you should really just do right now.

1. Writing Up a Resume

If you're not past college age, you may not have a real, official resume goin' on. But you should, and it really isn't hard. The internet (and probably your word processor) is full of templates-- and if all else fails, try going to your Career Services center (if you go to college) for help. The one at my school gives out guides for writing one, which made putting together my first sorta-grown-up resume a short, easy process.

2. Apologizing

Believe it or not, people don't live forever. If you've been thinking about apologizing to someone, now's the time; you never know if you'll have the chance tomorrow. You want closure, right? Fortunately, what with all the social media we have, contacting Ex Boyfriend I Treated Like Crap or Girl I Made Fun of in High School is pretty darn easy.

3. Pruning Your Closet

I find having way too much stuff to be really overwhelming, so there are few things more relieving than seeing a big bag of stuff for Goodwill in the hallway ready to leave forever. Cleaning out the closet or looking through boxes in the attic can, admittedly, be a process, but it's totally rewarding. Give what you can to charity and toss what's broken/unusable. Commit to a little sorting each day and soon you'll never have to worry about that ungodly Beanie Baby collection again.

4. Going to the Doctor/Dentist/Gynecologist/Etc.

Self explanatory. I dread medical visits of all kinds, and I know a lot of other people do, too, but it's very bad not to go. I really like you guys and I want you to be healthy. Make some appointments, especially if it's been awhile.

5. Trying to Get Something Published

Creative endeavors generally mean getting rejected 3.2 zillion times before seeing the fruits of your labor-- so start now. The sooner you send off that query, the sooner you'll see results.

6. Starting a Savings Account

I only had a checking account for a stupidly long time. I don't know why because starting another account takes all of five minutes. This is one of those things we know we should do and think about in passing, but never get around to. Stop reading and head to the bank, for real.

7. Heading Back to College

It's often said that the longer you take time off from higher education, the less likely you are to return. If a higher degree is recommended for your dream job, why not enroll as soon as possible?

8. Exercising

Year-round I'm in walking distance of a free gym, but I know how hard it can be to just get up and go-- 'cause that's the hardest part. Once I'm at the gym, I'm actually pretty content, to tell the truth. And, yes, I have confidence in you to find a half an hour in your whole day to do something active, even if it's dancing in your bedroom to bad pop music (there's always time for that).

9. Hanging Out

"I haven't seen you in forever! We should totally hang out some time!" You never hung out with that person and you know it. We've all done it. Have a friend you haven't seen in awhile? Make time, not empty offers.

10. Watching This

Okay, I kid. Sorta. No, really, watch this right now.

Have you procrastinated any of these things? Are you going to stop? And, no, I don't mean "tomorrow." I see what you're doing there.
